Chelsea winger Willian says there is "no chance" he would be at the club had former head coach Antonio Conte still been in charge. Conte won the 2016-17 Premier League title with the Blues but was  sacked in July  after finishing fifth. His replacement, fellow Italian  Maurizio Sarri,  won his first Premier League match in charge, 3-0 at Huddersfield on Saturday. "The manager tells us to play, to enjoy ourselves on the pitch," Willian said. "Is it fun to play this way? I think so. We have a lot of players with quality up front, like Eden Hazard and Pedro. Players like that want to play football. "That's why he [Sarri] talked about 'fun' football [after arriving at Chelsea]. This is what we will try to do this season." Brazilian Willian, 30, was linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United this summer but  committed his future  to the Blues in early August. Manchester United are confident David de Gea will sign a new long-term contract to stay at Old Trafford. The 27-year-old's present deal expires in 2019, although United have an option to extend it by a further season. The Old Trafford club were keen to begin talks with goalkeeper De Gea's representatives and their hand has been strengthened by Thibaut Courtois' £35m move to Real Madrid from Chelsea. Real have repeatedly been linked with Spain international De Gea since 2015. The Bernabeu club  came within minutes of signing De Gea,  only for a broken fax machine to prevent the required paperwork from being sent. In May, De Gea, who joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 in an £18.9m deal, was named the club's player of the year for an unprecedented fourth time. He was also included in the Professional Footballers' Association team of the year after an impressive season at Premier League runners-up United. However, De Gea was not as convincing

Raheem Sterling: Manchester City winger is targeted by racism, says Ian Wright

Criticism of Manchester City and England winger Raheem Sterling is motivated by racism, says former Arsenal striker Ian Wright. Sterling, 23, has faced frequent media disapproval, most recently for a tattoo of a rifle on his leg but also for purchasing clothes from Primark and buying his mother a house. He was also criticised over his World Cup performances for England in Russia. "How many people do you see get the criticism Sterling gets?" Wright said. "The football criticism is something every player has to deal with, but what he gets I don't see any other footballer getting," former England forward Wright added on BBC Radio 5 live's  Monday Night Club. "They don't get that stick because for whatever reason they don't rub up the people in the corridors of power the wrong way. I think there is an agenda against him. "There is an element of people at high end of the media who want to keep that guy down. Simple. "When y

Image
It’s Amazing the way things can move fast in life, but sometimes set backs are a veritable incentives for proper reflection.
